Mat Merritt

Mat has a passion for a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums. He draws his inspiration from nature and music as well as a wide variety of contemporary artists. He has a particular fascination with the point in which science and art meet, such as paleontology and mycology. In his art he explores the dichotomy of life and death, and enjoys tattoos that incorporate natural elements with other themes.

Mat enjoys tattooing in a variety of styles, but leans towards stylistic color tattoos. He loves to tattoo creatures and animals, anything from dinosaurs to horses. Pieces that incorporate plant and animal life are his favorite, and he enjoys designing custom tattoos with artistic balance in mind. He loves the challenge of incorporating many elements into a cohesive and pleasing design.

Mat has years of artistic training and experience branching into many different mediums. He has years of experience in ceramics, painting, sculpture and crafting. He likes to take everything he has learned in different artistic disciplines and apply them to the visual art and tattooing he focuses on now.

Mat grew up in Oregon and has been in the Forest Grove area since childhood. He loves to take his dog out on adventures and explore nature, you can often find him out on day trips and hikes at Henry Hagg Lake. He is also an amateur mushroom hunter and rock collector.
